Solar panels help power Delhi Township
A new system of solar panels in Delhi Township is in place to reduce energy costs and help the Township earn a federal rebate through the Inflation Reduction Act.
Residents can monitor information on power generated by the solar panels here. The solar panels were installed in several places at Township facilities, including:
- the carports outside the Sam Corey Senior Center and the Holt Farmers Market
- the Department of Public Works and Maintenance Building
- the treatment lagoons on McCue Road
- the lift stations on Waverly and Eifert roads
- the Senior Center
- the Farmer’s Market
The federal rebate will help offset the costs of the project. The ongoing energy savings are guaranteed by the company that the Township worked with on the installation and are expected to continue for decades to come. The cost savings will pay for the installation, but also the extensive infrastructure improvements that were necessary anyway, including roof replacements and parking lot reconstruction at the Senior Center and Community Service Center. The lifespan of the solar panels is about 30 years. In their final 10 years, the Township expects to save about $270,000 per year on energy costs.
